Discusses sensory processing disorders, including Dunns model of sensory processing, typical sensory processing patterns of persons with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), functional limitations observed by persons with autism and sensory processing dysfunction, two resources to identify sensory processing difficulties in persons with autism, and three resources to assist in developing an intervention plan for persons with autism and sensory processing dysfunction. Discussion topics include sensory integration and Dunns model of sensory processing, including sensation seeking, avoiding, sensitivity, and low registration; sensory processing in toddlers and adults with autism, as well as in those with Asperger syndrome; sensory processing subtypes, functional limitations, ways to identify sensory processing disorder (SPD), and intervention planning.
