Course overview

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a term describing the range of effects that can occur in an individual whose mother consumed alcohol during pregnancy. These effects may include physical, mental, behavioral, and/or learning disabilities with possible lifelong implications. In Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), Participants will study FASD in two parts. In Part 1, Participants will begin by covering the approaches to preventing FASD. Next, Participants will explore methods for identifying individuals in treatment who have or may have an FASD, referring them for diagnosis where possible, and providing appropriate interventions to meet their needs. Also, Participants will learn from clinical vignettes designed to realistically portray the provider-client interactions that might take place when providing FASD prevention or interventions. In Part 2, Participants will consider how administrators can provide support for programs and counselors addressing FASD.
