Course overview

Understanding the patient's rights and your legal and ethical responsibilities will help to mitigate any fear you have of being sued if you do not transport a patient. You Are unlikely to be sued successfully if you deliver emergency care within your scope of practice, follow your local protocols and state laws, and understand the parameters within which a patient has the right to refuse your services. A key part of your responsibilities, covered in this course, is to properly document the steps taken and the patient refusal.
