Course objectives are: define alcohol use disorder and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria used to diagnose alcohol use disorder; define key terms and differentiate the terms alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence; recognize risk and protective factors and common complications associated with alcohol misuse; discuss some of the tools and criteria used to screen for alcohol use disorder; identify some of the effective prevention and treatment interventions for alcohol use disorder; identify common alcohol withdrawal symptoms and review clinical management of acute alcohol withdrawal. Approved for 3 continuing education units-CEUs-contact hours for the following professions: Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states), Certified Case Managers (CCM), Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC), and Social Workers (NASW). Must pass final quiz with 80% or more; may re-take as often as needed.
