After completing this online course, health professionals will be able to:
- Review current ethics codes pertaining to the fields of child therapy and family therapy across the 6 major mental health sanctioning bodies in the field (e.g., APA, ASWB, NASW, NBCC, ACA, AAMFT)
- Recognize at least 5 prominent areas of ethical consideration that may arise when working with a child and/or family (e.g., informed consent, multiple relationships, confidentiality rights, cultural diversity/changing family structure, child protection issues)
- Establish clinical procedures and best practices to avoid and/or resolve ethical conflicts in the family therapy environment by utilizing a detailed 3-stage approach that includes an educational component, a personal connection component, and an action plan
Course overview
This online CE course is designed to help mental health professionals working with families anticipate, prevent, and minimize the risks to clients that occur due to ethical dilemmas. The course examines ethical issues as they relate to the unique relationship that forms between the clinician and members of the family in an effort to increase awareness of how relevant ethical codes may affect their clinical work. Our goal is to provide nationally approved (APA-approved, NBCC-approved, ASWB-approved, NYSED approved), cost-effective, accessible, and high quality CE courses and credits to psychologists, counselors, social workers, marital and family therapists and other healthcare professionals so they can meet their practice and professional needs.
