A history of exposure to trauma and other life adversities are common among individuals seeking services from behavioral health providers. Trauma Informed Care (TIC) is an overarching philosophy, framework, and organizational structure designed to better understand and recognize the impact of trauma on individuals through a strengths-based perspective. Designed for pediatric therapists and other professionals, this 2-hour, view-on-demand, recorded webinar provides attendees with a working understanding of the core principles of trauma-informed care, as well as easy-to-implement treatment strategies. Other topics discussed include trauma symptoms and triggers, trauma-informed interviewing practices, uncertainty, shame, empathy, resilience, self-regulation deficits, and sensory processing limitations. Empirically based research findings and case study examples are highlighted throughout the course. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) define trauma and other related concepts; (2) describe the key principles of trauma-informed care; (3) list how trauma and its associated deficits can impact the screening, intake, and goal-planning processes; (4) identify practical tips and suggestions for the implementation of trauma-informed care approaches; and (5) describe appropriate screening and intervention options through a trauma-informed lens. This distance-learning, independent format is offered at 0.2 CEUs, Introductory Level, OT Service Delivery, and targeted to introductory-level OTs, COTAs, and other pediatric professionals. The course instructor, Jerrod Brown, PhD, is a professor, trainer, and consultant with multiple years of experience teaching collegiate courses. Jerrod has also been employed with Pathways Counseling Center, Inc. in St. Paul, Minnesota, since 2003.
