Course overview

Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder are complex mental and physical disorders. These three disorders often go undiagnosed for long periods. It isn't until patients with these conditions seek treatment for GI, hormonal, or heart problems arise that their disorder is discovered (Riehl & Scarlata, 2021). Data shows only 20% of patients with an eating disorder seek treatment. Due to the low diagnosis rate, patients with eating disorders are at high risk for comorbidities and even death. It is important that all health care professionals can recognize the warning signs of eating disorders in their patients. When you provide early interventions, your patient will have better outcomes and recovery.
