According to Geri-Ann Galanti, PhD, cultural competency is a goal of most health care institutions. However, achieving this goal in today's healthcare environment, filled with diverse patient and provider populations, is no easy task. The aim of this course is to address how cultural competency can be achieved for everyone in healthcare. The course is interactive and task-based, leading learners through a series of activities to help them explore culture, stereotypes, generalizing and how these can impact the quality of care. Learning Outcomes: Recognize the difference between generalizing and stereotyping ethnic groups. Explain how ethnic groups regard healthcare differently. Employ methods of treating people from other ethnic groups with sensitivity. Analyze how a lack of understanding of ethnic diversity can impact patient care.
