Course overview

"Preload" and "afterload" issues associated with cardiovascular problems would most likely have been assessed and addressed in a critical-care unit just a few years ago. However, due to the complexity of these diseases, sophisticated hemodynamic assessment is no longer reserved exclusively for critical-care practitioners. Nurses working in step-down, medical/surgical, and even home healthcare settings need a basic understanding of hemodynamic concepts to guide their day-to-day practice. This course discusses cardiac output, preload, afterload, and therapies used to treat patients with these cardiac conditions.
