Bowel irregularity and constipation symptoms are commonly experienced by older adults. Constipation is a problem specific to intestinal mobility, or how efficiently the colon can move stool through the gut and on to defecation. As the body ages, some of the physical and psychological changes that take place can negatively affect the bowel elimination process. This course discusses constipation and fecal impaction. It also discusses risk factors and methods of prevention and treatment for constipation and fecal impaction.
