Preventing the Spread of MRSA

Course overview

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a notorious pathogen in healthcare facilities and communities. This bacteria can be asymptomatically carried by people regardless of health status, but can also cause serious, invasive infections. MRSA has been associated with higher rates of infection and mortality, and all healthcare team members play a role in preventing the spread of MRSA. This module discusses hospital and community acquired MRSA infections, the history of MRSA, transmission, treatment, and prevention.
