Course overview
The response to COVID-19 has made it clear that healthcare facilities in the U.S. are not adequately prepared to handle pandemics (Health Affairs, 2020). As with all types of emergencies, a healthcare organizations prior preparation for a pandemic response is vital. Additionally, all healthcare organizations that receive Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement are required to adopt emergency preparedness regulations (TJC, n.d). This course will introduce you to the influenza pandemic response and its three stages of preparation, response, and recovery. You will learn about the basic elements of a pandemic influenza plan and the steps needed to implement this plan when responding to pandemic levels of influenza in the community.
