Using Coaching to Help Nurses Succeed
Tracking # 20-830364
Course overview
Today, nurses at all levels are expected to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities. Knowing how to coach (and be coached) is central to helping nurses develop the skills they need to succeed. There are key components in coaching: 1) A coach who is willing to invest time and energy into the development of a nurse or student (coachees) and 2) a coachee who is open to development. Coaching does not focus on teaching someone to do specific tasks. The ultimate goal of coaching is to partner with individuals to help them develop new skills and attitudes. This may entail moving the coachee out of their comfort zone, providing a new direction or alternative pathway, and helping the coachee to learn from the experience. The goal of this course is to provide nurses with information about the critical relationships among coaching, career development, and outcome achievement.
