Course overview

Course Summary Healthcare workers are continuously exposed to hazards of blood-borne pathogen transmission. Many bacteria and viruses may be transmitted to healthcare workers by needlesticks, sharps injury, or splash contact. Hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and the human immunodeficiency virus account for the greatest number of exposures and infections. Important aspects of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration standard and information on the management of exposure to blood-borne pathogens are discussed.
