The training will provide EMDR therapists with an in-depth overview of the neurobiology of chronic pain and how certain chronic health conditions resulting in chronic pain are the result of repeated disruption of the bodys systems. The therapist will develop an organized framework to treat these effectively by enhancing their use of the EMDR Pain Protocol and maximizing their use of the Standard Protocol. Therapists will be exposed to new nervous system driven interventions as part of this framework. Presenter Bio: Gary Brothers, LCSW is EMDRIA-certified in EMDR and has presented at EMDRIA US 2019 and EMDR Canada 2019 on how to best utilize EMDR for chronic pain and chronic health conditions. Gary is a licensed clinical social worker with over 25 years of experience, the last 12 years specializing in treating clients suffering with chronic pain and chronic health conditions as well as trauma and PTSD. During his years as a psychotherapist he has worked in all levels of care including pain treatment centers, hospitals, inpatient treatment centers, and outpatient clinics. He has developed and directed comprehensive programs and curriculums for both mental health and chronic pain treatment from the ground up. In addition to treating clients in his daily practice, he teaches workshops and trains others in his model of care that utilizes EMDR in conjunction with other strategies based in neuroscience and neurobiology. Timeline: Day One and Day Two: 8:00-8:30am Registration 8:30am Begin Workshop 8:30-12:00pm Morning Session 12:00-1:30pm Lunch 1:30-5:00pm Afternoon Session Learning Objectives Participants will be able to: 1. Summarize how neuroplasticity works regarding chronic pain, both for development of and recovery from chronic pain. 2. Identify the difference between psychophysiological coherence and psychophysiological incoherence and identify 2 strategies to shift to or maintain psychophysiological coherence. 3. Identify at least 3 sensory, cognitive, and/or emotional strategies to close open or activated pain gates. 4. Demonstrate foundational skills to practice and begin to utilize Vagus Nerve Stimulation with Positive Cognitions with and without bilateral stimulation. 5. Demonstrate foundational skills to practice and begin to utilize Somatic Focused Bilateral Stimulation. 6. Demonstrate foundational skills to practice and begin to utilize Somatic Perceptions with and without bilateral stimulation. 7. Identify at least 3 chemicals in the body related to chronic pain or chronic health conditions and at least one of their functions. 8. Demonstrate foundational skills to practice and begin to utilize EMDR Pain Protocol. 9. Identify effective targets for use of Standard/Therapy Protocol and how to use the EMDR Pain Protocol in conjunction with the Standard/Therapy Protocol to enhance outcomes.
