Course overview

When treating a patient who may be in shock, EMS professionals must perform a balancing act when deciding how much fluid to give and at what rate to stabilize them. They must understand the effects that different receptors, like epinephrine or dopamine receptors, can have on the patient, as well as understand the benefits of premixed drips. This course discusses drip and push dose pressors in the field, including the goal of using alpha 1, alpha 2, beta 1, or beta 2 receptors to treat a patient, when to use common pressors like epinephrine, Levophed, dopamine, and phenylephrine, and how the patients fluid status and state of shock affect the treatment options.
