Venous Thromboembolism and Joint Replacement
Tracking # 20-845568
Course overview
About 1 million new total joint replacements (TJRs) are performed each year. A relatively common and often serious complication of major orthopedic surgery is venous thromboembolism (VTE). Patients rely on their physicians to help them understand their risk of VTE and to choose appropriate anticoagulant therapy. Therefore, physicians and surgeons need to be aware of the various prophylactic treatments available for preventing VTE following TJR.
