Burnout in Health Care: Swimming in Turbulent Water

Course overview
The incidence of burnout has risen to the extent that 40% to 70% of physician and nurse populations have at least one symptom of burnout. Researchers are finding that healthcare systems changes must accompany personal resilience strategies before we will see a drop in the incidence of clinician burnout. This monograph discusses six strategies--three individual and three institutional ones--which, by helping to lower the incidence of clinician burnout will augment patient safety and reduce medical malpractice risk for facilities and individuals.
