Course overview

This activity is a module from the alcohol abuse and dependence prevention curriculum developed by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism for the use of social workers and other mental health professionals. This module explores several frameworks for prevention and discusses their application to the prevention of alcohol use disorders. It also examines vulnerability and resilience factors as well as risk and protective factors that can impact prevention strategies. Included are the key steps for program development and implementation offered by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) and a description of five specific programs that have been implemented and empirically tested.
