Course overview

This course is based on the book Stretching Anatomy by Nelson and Kokkonen. This course covers the fundamentals of stretching, the anatomy and physiology of stretching, types of stretching (ballistic, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, static, dynamic, and stretches for athletes), and the benefits of stretching. The course presents stretching exercises for feet and calves; knees and thighs; hips and lower trunk; arms, wrists and hands; the shoulder; the back and chest; and the neck, and it offers programs for mobility and flexibility. In each case the course provides detailed diagrams of which muscles are involved in each stretch, how to execute each stretch, modifications of each stretch, and when it is appropriate to use each stretch. It includes beginner stretches, intermediate, advanced, and "expert" stretches, as well as stretching programs for various sports for both pre-event and training. This course is a valuable resource and reference for all PT clinicians.
