Providing Facility-based Care Using Telehealth

Course overview

Telehealth and telemedicine refer to the provision of medical care and the exchange of medical information using technology. The use of telehealth expands a resident's access to healthcare without the disruption of leaving the facility. Telehealth leads to fewer rehospitalizations because of early recognition and treatment of infections and other conditions affecting residents. This course will discuss the benefits of using telehealth for older adults. It will also discuss the nurse's role in telehealth, including the assessment, documentation, and management of the resident. Without the use of telehealth, residents may experience anxiety of going to the provider's office, fear of not understanding what the provider is saying, and possible exposure to infectious illnesses.
