By providing a comprehensive and systematic study of the human response to trauma, this course outlines the essentials of assessment and treatment for people who have been traumatized by interpersonal violence, natural disasters, large-scale accidents, war and other overwhelming events. This course is intended as a practical hands-on guide to trauma treatment that covers aspects of cognitive-behavioral therapy, relational psychotherapy, as well as trauma psychopharmacology. Course Objectives: * Discuss the major types of traumatic events, their potential effects, and the ways in which trauma and its outcomes can be assessed. * Discuss general issues relevant to trauma therapy, as well as more specific and technical aspects of treatment, including the treatment of acute trauma, the biology of trauma and psychopharmacological approaches to treating trauma survivors.
