Cornerstones 12: Summative Assessment in the Psychomotor Domain

Course overview

Summative assessment differs depending on whether knowledge or skill is being assessed. Hands-on and communication skills are much harder to consistently assign value to, so we fill in this gap for massage and bodywork instructors here in this course, the 12th in Cornerstones: The ABMP Instructor Development Program. Following a brief review of the four key components of designing summative assessments, this course explores the unique intricacies of assessing skill mastery in an objective, observable, and measurable way. We include specific instruction on how to write a skill rubric and supplemental checklists that support instructional and learning processes in the psychomotor domain.
