Course overview

Lipids are essential to our bodies, important for our well-being. In these articles, we will look at lipid composition, function, and relevance to the clinical laboratory. The term lipid refers to triglycerides, cholesterol, and fatty acids collectively. Lipids are a diverse group of molecules that are insoluble in aqueous solutions like water and have many different biological functions. Lipids provide the molecules for cell membrane manufacturing and hormone synthesis. Lipid processing involves the whole body, especially the liver, fat tissue, and the intestines.
