Course overview

This course covers: How pharmacogenetics testing may be used in personalized medicine, how various molecular testing techniques are used in targeted therapies, examples of somatic variants acquired through mutagenesis or germline variants acquired parentally and how molecular testing detects these variants for use in targeted therapies in oncology and other conditions, the challenge in molecular testing for the detection of somatic or germline variants, how polymorphic genotypes of the CYP2D6 gene contribute to an individual's sensitivity, toxicity and/or resistance to particular drugs, and the role of variant genotypes of genes in patient response to warfarin and clopidogrel therapy.
