PHARMACIST OBJECTIVES 1. Identify the role of rapid blood culture identification (rBCID) in patient care. 2. Evaluate the potential pros and cons of rBCID use with the GenMark Diagnostics ePlex platform in the setting of gram-positive, gram-negative, and gram-variable bacteremia 3. Understand the importance of integrating Antimicrobial Stewardship and Pharmacy services into rBCID use. 4. Interpret rBCID results utilizing available resources. 5. Combine the rBCID Pharmacists Guide with clinically relevant rBCID results to optimize patient care in the following settings: oBug-drug mismatches and identified pathogens without antibiotic therapy initiated. oUnnecessarily broad-spectrum antimicrobial use. oAdequately treated pathogens. oPotential contaminants in the blood. TECHNICIAN OBJECTIVES 1. Understand the role of the microbiology and pharmacy department in optimizing patients drug therapy based on rBCID results. 2. Identify how pharmacy technicians play an integral role in triaging results to the pharmacist.
