Course overview

Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a hereditary disease that is potentially fatal when patients are exposed to general anesthesia and/or the muscle relaxer succinylcholine. This course will teach healthcare providers to be observant of patients receiving anesthesia or succinylcholine for signs of MH, which include elevated body temperature, muscle rigidity, rapid heart rate, resulting in muscle discomposure and increased acidity. The background, psychopathology, and etiology of malignant hyperthermia will be covered in this course as well as a comprehensive overview regarding diagnosing and treating patients with malignant hyperthermia.
