Assessing and Treating Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders

Course overview

Obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (OCRDs) are potentially severe conditions that involve repetitive thoughts and/or behaviors as well as difficulty with behavioral inhibition. OCRDs can significantly impact a persons quality of life and may lead to severe impairment in physical, mental, social, and occupational functioning. In addition to the amount of time consumed by the symptoms of these disorders, they are often persistent when left untreated and increase the risk of negative outcomes, such as suicide. In this course, you will deepen your understanding of the subtleties of each disorder in this category, the most well-known being obsessive-compulsive disorder. You will review best practice standards of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Through interactive scenarios and detailed examples, you will gain a deeper understanding of how you can best support individuals with these disorders in your own setting. The goal of this course is to provide skills to addictions, behavioral health counseling, marriage and family therapy, nursing, psychology, and social work professionals in health and human services settings about assessment and treatment of obsessive-compulsive and related disorders.
