After completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

1. Identify best practices in the prescribing of controlled substances.
2. Identify behaviors associated with drug-seeking and substance use disorders.
3. Describe best practices for managing patients who display drug seeking behaviors and diversion.
4. Describe appropriate patient education related to use, storage, and proper disposal of opioid medications, administration of opioid reversal agents, and basics of substance abuse.
5. Discuss legal consideration when treating patients prescribed controlled substances.
