Crisis Intervention and De-escalation

Course overview

All mental health professionals need to be prepared to respond to individuals who are in crisis.  In order to do this, clinicians need not only strong clinical skills, but also knowledge of information about legal state mandates, system resources, as well as the current research supporting best practices in crisis assessment and intervention.  This three hour training is designed for mental health professionals who desire to increase their confidence and knowledge in responding to mental health crisis situations. Topics covered will include the physical, psychological, and emotional aspects of crisis, Ohio Revised code and associated legal mandates, and local community resources.  Specific clinical skills associated with accurate assessment, intervention, and safety planning, as well as ethical and cultural considerations, will be addressed.
