Course overview

Respiratory care professionals in a wide variety of care settings have a responsibility to provide care in a manner that reasonably insulates the patient from added harm. One way that harm to a patient may occur during care is the transmission of an infection. Microorganisms are ubiquitous in the environment and are found on and in the human body. Given how plentiful and pervasive microorganisms are, not to mention the potential for disease that some have, it is not surprising that healthcare-associated infections are cause for concern. In this course, you will learn the basic principles of infection prevention as they relate to respiratory care. You will also learn the part respiratory therapists play in prevention, monitoring, and reporting. The goal of this course is to provide respiratory care professionals in acute care settings with knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
