Addressing Overweight & Obesity in Individuals with Mental Health Disorders

Course overview

Consumers of mental health services die decades earlier than the general population largely due to preventable, treatable, and modifiable risk factors and conditions. Included in these risk factors and conditions is obesity, one of the most common factors linking behavioral health disorders with significant morbidity and mortality. Serious health consequences including diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia, stroke, sleep apnea, and various cancers can accompany excess body weight, but it is also a roadblock to an individual's behavioral health recovery.
