Course overview

Falls (many resulting in fractured hips) are the number one reason for admissions to skilled nursing facilities. Falls and injuries from falls have risen at an alarming rate. Most falls occur without warning and may lead to a decline in independence and mobility. Older persons tend to heal slowly and therefore injuries are more severe. Caregivers play a significant role in prevention of falls! Preventing an injury will prevent hospitalization, reduce nursing home admissions, reduce risk of premature death, and lower the cost of medical care.
