Sexual Violence on College Campuses

Course overview

Approximately 13% of students experience sexual violence on college campuses in the U.S. each year (Cantor et al., 2020). This is likely an underrepresentation, as most students do not report sexual assault or harassment. Sexual violence leads to several consequences, including medical, psychological, and functional difficulties. Nursing professionals can be integral to the safety and well-being of college students at risk for sexual violence. This course provides information on screening methods and ways to provide trauma-informed care to all students. You will learn ways to respond when patients disclose sexual violence. Lastly, you will learn the kinds of targeted efforts universities employ to prevent sexual violence on campus.
