Approximately 13% of cases are classified as small cell. Most patients present with advanced-stage disease, making systemic therapy the cornerstone of management (ACS, 2020). Unfortunately, responses are fleeting and therapeutic options are limited. The 5-year survival rate for patients with SCLC is a dismal 6%, indicating a need for continued research on more effective approaches to tumor control (ACS, 2020; NCI, 2019).
