Course overview

When difficult behaviors arise in children with sensory processing disorders, we often ask ourselves whether the behaviors are sensory OR behavioral in nature. However, experience shows us that the answer is usually both: sensory AND behavioral. This 2-hour, view-on-demand, recorded webinar includes a framework for wholistic intervention, research to support this approach, and tools to get started right away. *NOTE: AOTA grandfathered Sensory AND Behavior on September 1, 2020. This course is an updated version submitted to AOTA for review. Once approved, the PD activity ID number will be updated next to the AOTA banner under the CEU section. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) discuss where sensory factors fit into the ABC method of behavior analysis, (2) delineate proactive and reactive strategies to address difficult behaviors, (3) select cognitive strategies to address certain behaviors, and (4) recognize the role of sensory strategies in minimizing maladaptive behaviors. This distance-learning, interactive format is offered at 0.2 CEUs, Introductory Level, OT Service Delivery, and targeted to introductory- to intermediate-level OTs, COTAs, and other pediatric professionals. The course instructor, Gwen Wild, MOT, OTR/L, is an experienced occupational therapist specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents diagnosed with autism and sensory processing disorders. Gwen is the creator of BrainWorks sensory diet tools. Although selling the business in October 2020, she remains with Sensational Brain as the AOTA and ASHA CE Administrator.
