Course overview

As the older adult population increases, healthcare providers across disciplines will be caring for more acutely ill older adult patients. Many will have infectious diseases because older adults are at an increased risk for acquiring infectious diseases and developing associated complications. The increase in the aging population is an enormous challenge for healthcare professionals. Healthcare professionals must be equipped with the appropriate knowledge to understand how age-related changes in the immune system increase the risk for and severity of common infections in older adult patients.
