Course overview
Patients requiring mechanical ventilation are seen in both acute and post-acute care settings, and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and respiratory therapists (RTs) need to understand their roles in weaning patients off of the ventilator. This module provides learners with an overview of the steps of ventilator weaning, including how to assess readiness, perform spontaneous breathing trials, and determine the safety of extubation or the removal of ventilation for patients who no longer need ventilator assistance.
