Implicit Bias and Maternal Mortality

Course overview

The United States has a high and still rising rate of maternal deaths, and black and indigenous women are dying from complications of childbirth at higher rates than white women. Although the problem of maternal mortality is complex, studies have verified that implicit bias contributes to it. This activity will analyze current circumstances and suggest some strategies for recognizing and reducing implicit bias with the ultimate aim of lowering peripartum injury and death rates for all patients.
