This course provides 3.75 hours of continuing education for professionals, incorporating media-based video lectures and lesson tests in curricular modules. The course focuses on defining diversity, equity, and inclusion and advancing impactful diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in the workplace. Learners recognize key characteristics of DEI and practices for building and sustaining a healthy DEI culture. The course addresses how to identify behaviors that signal a breakdown in achieving an inclusive culture, key elements that enable diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to take root, and the steps for demonstrating agility and resilience in the DEI journey. Learners gain an understanding of different kinds of implicit bias and how to recognize them in action, as well as the importance of committing to thoughtful inclusion in the workplace. Course participants learn to recognize the characteristics of the different types of micro-behaviors and how to decode the messages they send. The course includes instruction on how to identify micro-aggressions, when and how to take action to address micro-aggressions, and how to use micro-inclusions as an antidote to micro-aggressions. Course participants explore the power of inclusion, supporting DEI at work, the basics of inclusive recruitment and hiring, as well as company support for inclusion from onboarding through to retirement. The course also explores strategies for becoming an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace and learning to build awareness of values and social perspective, as well as to recognize specific actions to improve social and cultural aspects of DEI. Finally, course participants learn the key concepts of allyship, methods for becoming a more inclusive communicator, and ways to use the RISE model to become a DEI ally.
