CI 610: Counseling Victims of Violence & Disasters

Course overview

This course provides an introduction to the theories and practice of crisis intervention with special concentration in traumatic events/circumstances experienced by clients. The first part of the course focuses on the counseling of victims of violence. Many types of violence, such as domestic and child abuse are presented. Students will learn guidelines for referrals for clients. For each of the types of violence presented, students will learn to address three stages of counseling including crisis intervention, and short-term and long-term interventions. Secondary victimizations are also examined. The second part of the course focuses on training modules for crisis intervention and disaster responders. Many types of crisis situations are examined along with primary interventions for use in practice. This CE Course is offered by the American Institute of Health Care Professionals, Inc.
