This course examines Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment and using family therapy to work with families and influences of misuse. It includes: what is family counseling and why it is useful, family counseling objectives, understanding families, common characteristics of all families, history of family based interventions in SUD treatment, different pathways in working with families, role of genetics and family history in the development of and recovery from SUD, common characteristics of families with SUD, and family types-SUD and family dynamics.
