Course overview

The Improving Medicare Post-Acute Care Transformation Act of 2014 (the IMPACT Act) was passed by Congress on September 18, 2014 and signed into law by President Obama on October 6, 2014. The Improving Medicare Post-Acute Transformation Act of 2014 (IMPACT Act) requires the reporting of standardized patient assessment data regarding quality measures and standardized patient assessment data elements (SPADEs). The act also requires the submission of data pertaining to measure domains, resource use and other domains. This legislation was a crucial step forward in improving the quality of health care for millions of Americans, providing consumers and government critical information regarding outcomes and cost. IMPACT standardized assessments for critical care issues across the spectrum of post-acute care (PAC) providers and builds a bridge to ensure that patient care is delivered based on what the patient needs, eliminating the silo focused approach to quality measurement and resource utilization. As healthcare reimbursement continues to evolve and become more complicated, it is more important than ever that healthcare professionals remain highly skilled in their ability to document a holistic view of the patient, their plan of care, progress, and outcomes. A comprehensive and accurate document is vital to quality patient care and reimbursement. A component of this documentation is the collection of self-care and mobility metrics captured in Section GG on the various assessment instruments for the Post-Acute Care Providers. The ABCs of Section GG Coding will educate the therapy team on how to accurately document the metrics both on admission and discharge as well as, establishing realistic measurable goals. This course will provide the framework to help guide the clinician to approach their documentation not only from a skilled level of care but, as part of an interdisciplinary team focused on the individual needs of the patient while incorporating evidence-based and supportive documentation to justify care. The ABCs of Section GG Coding will educate the clinician on the key components of data collection, timelines, comparison of data across post-acute settings, improving discharge planning and coordination of care between providers.
