1. Describe the scope of suicide in the United States.
2. Identify the etiology and risk factors for death by suicide or suicide attempts, including the impact of chronic toxic stress and secondary stress.
3. Describe a confidential and standardized pathway to care for nurses that addresses screening, assessing, safety planning, referrals, and follow-up care.
4. Identify ethical and legal considerations when caring for nurses and patients who have suicidal ideation.
5. Recall the nurse’s role in helping persons whose loved ones have died by suicide.
6. Describe interventions for suicide prevention.
