Critical Care Series: Behavioral Health

Course overview

While an individual is receiving life-saving medical treatment in the critical care unit, they are also often experiencing an increased level of emotional and psychological stress. This level of acute stress can be linked to behavioral health-related symptoms that vary in nature from depression and anxiety to delirium. A priority when caring for these individuals is to ensure patient and staff safety and the application of immediate psychological therapeutic interventions. The importance of implementing these interventions as soon as possible can lead to decreased stress and lower potential long-term psychological effects. The goal of this course is to provide information about psychological therapeutic interventions for individuals in the critical care setting who are experiencing common behavioral health-related symptoms.
