Course overview

Approximately 360,000 children in the United States are identified as being twice exceptional, displaying an area of extreme strength and talent as well as a learning disability (e.g., ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, autism). An equal number of children are currently undiagnosed even though they meet criteria. There is a critical need for educators, psychologists, parents, and pediatric occupational therapists to better understand the unique needs and intervention protocols for these children. This highly practical, 90-minute, view-on-demand, recorded, webinar provides participants with the knowledge and skills to not only begin identifying children in this often overlooked and undertreated population but also to address what can often be the missing link in our intervention programs. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) define the term twice exceptional as it applies to students, (2) identify challenges encountered to providing appropriate diagnosis and intervention, and (3) list five immediate tools to share with parents and educators. This course is targeted to intermediate- to advanced-level OTs, teachers, and other school-based professionals. The course instructor, Lori Benson Adams, MEd, is an educational intervention specialist and owner of Breakthrough Learning Solutions in Atlanta, Georgia. She has over 35 years of experience with students who experience sensory, learning, behavioral, and executive function challenges. Lori presents nationally to audiences of parents, therapists, and educators. She is known for her immediately practical information and wealth of knowledge and resources. Additional information can be found at www.loribensonadams.com. This distance-learning independent format is offered at 0.15 CEUs, Intermediate Level, OT Service Delivery.
