With technological advances in laboratory methods, laboratory testing approaches to HIV infection has become more simplified and streamlined in recent years. This session will present updates in the laboratory diagnosis and monitoring of HIV infection in the U.S., including latest recommendations of testing algorithms. Commonly encountered problems and mitigation measures against these pitfalls in such testing will be discussed. Learning objectives: Recognize current menu of initial and supplemental laboratory tests used in routine evaluation and monitoring of individuals for HIV infection; Understand the latest recommendations and rationale for testing algorithms and monitoring of HIV infection in the U.S.; Identify the common pitfalls and mitigation of such problems of current HIV testing.
