Course overview
Gambling involves wagering something of value for something else of value. Gambling can be a fun, leisurely activity. However, gambling can quickly evolve into an addiction, resulting in physical, social, psychological, financial, and legal consequences. Gambling addiction also co-occurs with other behavioral health conditions, including depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma-related, and bipolar disorders. As such, its essential that all behavioral healthcare providers know how to screen and assess for gambling disorders. The goal of this course is to provide addictions, behavioral health counseling, marriage and family therapy, nursing, psychology, and social work professionals in behavioral healthcare settings with information on how to recognize and treat gambling disorder.
