Course overview

Interest in medical cannabis has exploded in recent years. As of June 2021, 36 states and 4 US territories have public programs that permit the sale of medical cannabis products. With more Americans turning to medical cannabis for symptom relief than ever before, healthcare professionals have a responsibility to further their education on this topic. At the very least, healthcare professionals should be able to discuss the potential risks and benefits of medical cannabis therapy with their patients. This course provides up-to-date clinical and scientific information about medical cannabis that is of particular relevance to physicians, mid-level practitioners, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Learners will begin to appreciate the many different constituents of the cannabis plant, and will be able to summarize the pharmacology of two major cannabinoids, tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol. Learners will also become acquainted with possible side effects and adverse effects associated with cannabis use, drug interactions, and routes of administration.
