Course overview

This course is for the LMT who is interested in the techniques, parameters and indications of therapeutic massage for pregnant clients. The course begins with a thorough analysis of the anatomy and physiology of a pregnancy, labor and post-partum period from both western and traditional Chinese medical perspective. We will discuss the treatment of common and high-risk conditions, positioning, props and liability concerns. Participants will become aquainted with the parameters of employing adjunctive modalities, hydro and spa therapies, essential oils, reflexology and acupressure techniques. Participants will then learn how to integrate these modalities for the enhancement of their effects in pregnant, laboring and post-partum clients. Participants will be required to both give and receive a side lying massage. Completion of this 18-hour course, competency in both written and practical examination, and a completed case studies leads to a Certification in Pregnancy Massage.
